International Clothing Company ‘Mango’ launches in Karachi Posted: 07 Jul 2012 11:03 PM PDT The shop was surrounded by excitement and anticipation. The enthusiastic fans could not wait for it any longer. Then came the beautiful actress Mahira Khan, dressed in a matching black and white mango outfit, to cut the ribbon of the store's entrance to make the city of Karachi aware of the fact that this is the new era for the clothing fashion in Pakistan and yes, it is indeed show-time! For those unfamiliar with the Mango brand, it is a world-renowned clothing company founded by the Andic Brothers in 1984 and has now arrived in Karachi's Dolmen City Mall. "It's exciting to open up a store here," said the enthusiastic expansion director of Mango, Sean Hurley. "We were looking towards Pakistan for quite some time now. This is the first store and there will be many others to come in Pakistan – next is Lahore and, of course, Islamabad." Considering the fact how popular are the clothing trends and fashion slavery in Pakistan, it is safe to say that Mango will indeed be quite a fan favorite among the Pakistani teenagers. "It feels amazing to have introduced Mango here," said the CEO of Mango Pakistan, Abid Umer. "I think we should have opened it a long time ago." The new launched Mango definitely has the potential to dominate the clothing sales as, when compared to competitors Monsoon, Next and Nine West on the very same floor, it is quite reasonable – all products less than Rs 10,000. Rani Taj’s Rise to Classical Music Posted: 07 Jul 2012 10:58 PM PDT Singers come, leave a mark in their field and become legends, then either retire or continue their career playing classical songs. That is not the case when it comes to the dhol wonder, Rani Taj. Bhangra, not much of a fan favorite when it comes to mainstream music, has been as of late dominated by the 18 year-old girl, Rani Taj. The girl credits Goonga and Mithu Saeen for her success. Those who are not familiar with the dhol wonder, Rani Taj is a British Pakistani Bhangra artist from Birmingham, United Kingdom. Though already renowned in the Midlands, the girl's fame went sky high when a viral video of her playing dhol with Rihanna's song 'Rude Boy' being played at the back quickly spread on the social networking site, Facebook. As of late, Rani Taj is focusing her career on classical Sufi dhol music. Regarding the quick change, the dhol wonder has stated to The Express tribune, "I always found the Sufi style of playing dhol much more intricate and soulful." Considering the fact that she was the only female and youngest of the judges in a dhol competition in the United Kingdom, it is safe to say that Rani Taj has left quite a mark in her field for her age. Sadly, the dhol wonder has an equally important burden on her head: education. This forces her to return to Birmingham to continue her studies but claims that she will always keep Pakistan close to her as she claims it to be "the heart of dhol." ‘Par Mein Hoon Ruka Sa’ by Abbas Ali Khan [Review] Posted: 07 Jul 2012 10:52 PM PDT After an absence of seven long years, the heart capturing Abbas Ali Khan is back with a bang. Just when it seemed like that the Pakistani music industry has hit rock bottom, Abbas Ali khan tied up his boots and returned to the court where he belongs. With his new single 'Par Mein Hoon Ruka Sa', Abbas Ali Khan has been in the eye of every music fan in Pakistan. Unlike the previous songs, it is unique due to its simplicity – something which even most of the talented singers fail to achieve but nothing that a veteran like Abbas Ali Khan cannot handle. Regarding the theme of the song, Khan reveals, "It's about a moment of numbness that everyone has experienced at least once in life," says Abbas, adding that "it is the feeling of time stopping and depersonalisation." Farhan Rais Khan Seher Instrumental in Coke Studio (Video and Mp3) Posted: 07 Jul 2012 02:59 PM PDT Farhan Rais Khan’s Seher is another experimental recording that features the merging of two separate live performances. The house-band recorded their track on the set of Coke Studio and Farhan was invited later to play to this track. The initial plan was to record Farhan with the house band but he was unable to attend the sessions due to prior commitment. Without losing hope, Coke Studio decided to go-ahead and record the house-band with the option to record Farhan later. Symt feat Sanam Marvi Koi Labda (Coke Studio Song Mp3 and Video) Posted: 07 Jul 2012 01:44 PM PDT SYMT’s Koi Labda was written and composed by band members Haroon Shahid and Hasan Omer.The song is more serious than the bands other song, Tum Kaho and deals with the idea that not everyone can get everything they search for. The band talks about the sense of longing for a loved one – a parent or beloved. The song includes a qawwali by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan called menu chadkalli nu tu challeya "You left me alone and walked away." The qawwali section brings out the spiritual quest for God, represented through the symbolism of a worldly beloved – a common theme in sufi poetry. This is one of the first songs on Coke Studio that features a non-linear approach to recording. Sanam Marvi was recorded at a later date and her inclusion was decided after the main performance sessions. This unique approach to recording opens up a lot of possibilities for future collaborations. Meesha Shafi Dasht-e-Tanhai (Coke Studio Song Mp3/Video) Posted: 07 Jul 2012 01:33 PM PDT Meesha Shafi wanted to pay tribute to one of the greatest poets in the Urdu language – Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Faiz Sahib was a close friend of Shafi's grandfather and the song holds very deep personal meaning for her. She wanted to perform it in memory of Faiz Sahib for the 100th anniversary of his birthday which was last year. Dasht-e-Tanhai is a prime example of Faiz's romantic poetry, before the shift in his artistry to realism and social comment. Dealing with the theme of separation, Dasht-e-Tanhai was written in the Hyderabad jail during Faiz Sahib's first term in prison between 1951 and 1953. It was originally published in Dast-e-Saba and was titled 'Yaad'.
