‘Ek Tha Tiger’ not banned in Pakistan

Posted: 13 Jul 2012 11:28 AM PDT

If there is a Bollywood film this year who's curiosity never ends then it is definitely 'Ek Tha Tiger'. The film made quite an impact when its promo was released as it quickly earned the right to be known as the most awaited movie of 2012. However, the film's promo was banned by PEMRA (Pakistani Electronic Media Regulatory) as it had issued a letter to the local satellite channels to make sure that it does not air due to the speculation that it aims to destroy the image of Pakistan's ISI (Inter-service Intelligence).

However, that is not the case anymore as the Censor Board of Pakistan has dispelled such rumors and accusations and made it clear that the upcoming Bollywood film 'Ek Tha Tiger' is indeed not banned in the country. "The film will be censored when it is released so we have not taken any decision to ban it," said Muhammad Ashraf Gondal, the vice chairman of the Pakistani censor board.

Despite the speculation, the film is not about destroying the reputation of the ISI. In fact, it is a romantic action thriller that shows an Indian secret agent who determines to find a scientist who has been illegally selling missile technology to Pakistani intelligence. The film stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif and is set to release on August 15.

Rock band Karavan to Reunite

Posted: 13 Jul 2012 11:14 AM PDT

Metal heads of Pakistan! Get ready for one hell of a news: Rock band Karavan is set to make a comeback! For those unfamiliar with the band, then I must say that you have missed fifteen long years of well-composed rock music.

The band hails from Karachi and consists of one of the most talented musicians in the country: Tanseer Ahmed Daar (lead vocalist), Allan Smith (drummer), Sameer Ahmed (bass guitarist) and of course the backbone of the band, Asad Ahmed (lead guitarist). The band spent 15 years together rocking city to city all over Pakistan and never failed to make an impact in the rock music scene. Last summer, the band called it a day as guitarst Asad posted the following on the band's official page:

"After 15 years of rocking you, with Rakh Aas all the way till Saara Jahan last year, we feel the time has come to say goodbye. The reasons are many but in a nutshell i think all of us want to do our own thing musically, domestically and otherwise."

As of late, vocalist Tanseer and drummer Allan, during a recent conversation with City FM 89's Wes Malik on drive thru, revealed that the band has decided to make a comeback to where they belong: the Pakistani music industry. However, the reunion heavily depends upon lead guitarists Asad Ahmed's prior tour commitment and when he gets free. Whatever the future holds, lets hope the only way the reunion goes is "Aagey hi Aagey".

LAZARUS – “COPYCAT” [Review]

Posted: 13 Jul 2012 11:05 AM PDT

Hip hop music is not much appreciated in Pakistan but this song deserves a review. The eccentric rapper Lazarus has released a rap song titled 'Copycat' and did quite a job at it as it will certainly make you go "Yo Yo Yo". The rapper has made it clear that his new rap song is specifically addressed to fellow rapper Kanye West because he bit 'God Flow'.

The song attempts to have quite a boost from the very beginning as the intro is done by none other than the World Wrestling Entertainment's former World Heavyweight Champion, the world's strongest man Mark Henry. Mark introduces Lazarus and welcomes the listeners and then starts the catchy beat following Lazarus' edgy style of rapping.

The content of the rap song is mainly connected to Lazarus' claims of doing incredible things and clearly expressing his personal views on Kanye West and being pissed off as the latter bit the song 'God Flow'. As good as the rap song might be, it is just three minutes long but because of the clever lyrics and the much catchy beats, the song is definitely worth listening to.

Dareecha Opens Its First Retail Outlet in Lahore

Posted: 13 Jul 2012 10:58 AM PDT

Last week, Pakistani fashion was met with a bang as Dareecha launched its very first retail outlet at the Vogue Towers in Lahore. For 40 years, it has been playing quite a part in shaping the modern fashion sense in Pakistan particularly when it comes to pashmina shawls. Initially, the sales concerned solely to Liberty Market's Saleem Fabrics; prompting a loyal customer to say, "I always used to wonder who made the shawls I used to buy from Saleem Fabrics and now I am so happy that there is a store with a wide range of collection available under one roof."

The launch was a major step for the upcoming fashion trends in Pakistan. Dareecha's launch organizer Arsalan Ahmed said, "The most important thing to notice here is the quality of the product and the price they are offering it at. I mean a shawl for PKR15,000 is very reasonable for an item of this quality."

Their clothes come in a lot variety as many were either hand-made or machine embroidered. Seeing that a three-piece suit costs PKR5,000, it is safe to say that the prices are quite reasonable in their own right. With summer at its peak, this was certainly what the fashion slaves of Pakistan has been waiting for.

Bollywood is Hard Work; said Ali Zafar

Posted: 13 Jul 2012 10:50 AM PDT

Who says acting is easy? Not Ali Zafar. The singer-turned-actor has always given his best when it comes to professional work. From painting portraits as a painter in Lahore's Pearl Continental hotel to citing in hit Bollywood films, Ali Zafar has expressed his views on the fact that for any moment in a successful journey, hard work is the key.

During a recent interview with The Express Tribune, Ali Zafar stated that Bollywood is not easy. "Does anything come easy in this world?" he asked. "It's [Bollywood] a lot of hard work." Zafar's journey may have been a successful one but indeed there was never any substitute for his tiring efforts and patients.  "It's all been very rewarding. I worked hard, gave a lot of time to music and I am grateful that people really appreciated my work," said the enthusiastic Zafar. "Although more of my work is now concerned with Bollywood, I never let go of a chance to perform here in Pakistan."

Considering the fact that the he felt unsatisfied upon his performance of "Madhubala" during this year's Lux Style Awards, one can surely imagine that acting of any sort is certainly not a quick fun run in the parks. As of late, Ali Zafar is focusing on his acting career in Bollywood and his upcoming film "Chashme Buddoor" is set to release on the 30th of November.
