Considering the fact that politics have always been a controversial issue in Pakistan, one must wonder what is bound to happen when a member of Pervez Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League (AMPL) marries a member, a founding member for that matter, of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). As a matter of fact, the scenario is a reality as member of AMPL, legendary actress Atiqa Odho has married architect and founding member of PTI, Samar Ali Khan.

The actress is not bothered by the fact that this is her third marriage as she firmly believes that love can happen at any age. In a recent interview with The Express Tribune, the love birds talked about not only their feelings towards each other but also towards their parties. Despite from being different parties, the relationship seems to be a genuine one as both have seen how generous the other one is. Odho stated, "We are two people who have a deep connection with this country and we are certainly not letting that go."

The couple has ensured that they will not allow the political rivalry come between their marriages. From their previous marriage, Samar has four children and Odho has three. With the rising temperature of the current state of politics in Pakistan, one cannot be sure of the fate of the connection between the newly wedded couple.

Pakistani Film “Lamha” to Premiere at New York Film Festival

Posted: 05 Jul 2012 06:32 AM PDT

Considering the pathetic reputation the Pakistani cinema has in its own country, it definitely is amazing to see that it is appreciated abroad and in a country like America for that matter. That's right! The Pakistani film “Lamha” (publicized as 'Seedlings' in English internationally) will be screened at the prestigious New York City International Film Festival.

The entry is unique in the sense that out of 3000 films, Lamha made it to the festival's short list of 100 films. Not only that, the film has been nominated for the award categories of Best Producer, Best Director, Best Writer and Best Actor.

The movie is directed by newcomer Mansoor Mujahid, produced by Meher Jaffri and Summer Nicks and stars Mohib Mirza, Amina Sheikh and Gohar Rasheed. Regarding the story of the movie, Jaffri stated, "is a Pakistan-based story, encompassing human interests and does not carry any political or social agenda. However, some upcoming projects by the company would be based on current affairs." NYCIFF Director Roberto Rizzo himself applauded the Pakistani film as he stated, "As French poet Lamartine wrote 'There is one missing and the whole world is empty': the movie is about how to overcome this emptiness. Mansoor Mujahid treats this sensitive subject in the most subtle way, and the performance of Aamina Sheikh as a devastated mother makes it extraordinarily moving."

This truly is an honor and a matter of pride for the Pakistani cinema. The festival will start from August 9 and last till August 16. Lamha itself will be released in Pakistan during late fall.

Acid Victim Ignites Controversy for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy

Posted: 05 Jul 2012 06:22 AM PDT

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy – the woman who shocked not only the United States of America but the entire world by winning an Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) – has been drowned in a flood of controversy due to an alleged unfulfilled promise. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, alongside by Daniel Judge, directed a documentary about the acid attacks on women titled, 'Saving Face'. The hot buzz surrounding the talented journalist and documentary filmmaker is that one of her hired staff has furiously revealed an unfulfilled promise by Sharmeen.

Rukhsana Bibi has revealed that she was offered a plastic surgery, a five-marla house and a financial aid of Rs 3,000,000 by Sharmeen in exchange for appearing in her documentary for her narratives. On top of all, she was kicked out of her home for appearing in the film; leaving her and her children without any shelter or safety.

The proud Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has stated that she never made any such promise to the acid victim. To make matters worse, plastic surgeon Dr Mohammad Jawwad, who came to Pakistan to perform the surgery on Rukhsana Bibi, was unable to perform the surgery because she declined the offer. Whether the alligations are true or not, it is a sad spectacle to see the poor victim helpless with the responsibility of children.

Arif Lohar’s “Jugni” Makes Its Way To Cocktail [Review]

Posted: 05 Jul 2012 06:15 AM PDT

This July, Saif Ali Khan's very own production company Illuminati Films brings you yet another romantic comedy film – Cocktail. The film stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. We have to wait for the official release but what we do not have to wait for is the song 'Jugni' from the soundtrack of the film. For those unfamiliar with the song, it is from Coke Studio Season 3 amazingly performed by the legend of folk Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi. The rights of the song were earlier bought by the film makers and the song is now re-sung by Arif Lohar with Harshdeep Kaur.

The official music video of the new “Jugni” consists of clips from the film including Gautam Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan), Veronica D'Costa (Deepika Padukone) and Meera Gupta (Diana Penty). The glamorous Deepika was offered both the roles of Veronica and Meera but chose the former as the latter was much similar to her character in Love Aaj Kal (also starring Saif Ali Khan).

The sad song starts with the words, "This season, Love Gets Complicated". The beginning could not get any better as Gautam is shown kissing Meera, and then Veroncia. If that's not complicated, I don't know what is. Apart from several romantic scenes involving the three, it shows Saif's character playing an acoustic guitar with a passion for music. The plot definitely seems to be mind-blowing while seeing the victims of the love triangle walking in the big city searching their destiny. Leaving the video aside, the lyrics and the composition of the song is exceptionally good and Arif Lohar, doesn't matter if he is with Meesha, Harsdeep or alone, has still got it.
