How Budget Is killing Pakistan’s Film Industry

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 04:54 AM PDT

The Pakistani film industry might just have faced their biggest threat yet: the alarming budget factor. Due to the announcement of Federal and Punjab’s budgets, the film industry – which has always met with a lot of negligence and not has been treated as a priority – has been engaging in quite a commotion as many big names have openly expressed their outrage and disbelief.

"The budget does not resonate with the wishes and demands of the general population," says the legendary film and television actor Mustafa Qureshi regarding the budget situation. "Not enough importance has been given to the film industry, which has been an integral part of Lahore's culture for over 100 years."

Like various other big leagues in the country's film industry, Qureshi has occasionally managed to interact with the government with the hope of strengthening the industry he is dedicated to but to no avail. He claims that the fate of the industry is at risk due to the lack of clarity of it is the federal government or Punjab government's responsibility. On the other hand, PML-N distributed Rs 5 billion among Tourism, Human Rights and Ministry of Information but that cannot be said for Qureshi's industry. Actor Ghulam Mohiuddin has time and again expressed his disappointment over Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and the Censor Board as well.

Regarding the betterment and revival of the Pakistani film industry, director and producer Javed Raza has proposed that the government should open five-screen cinema in every major city so both sides can earn financial benefits. However, proposals are not as simple as implementation and only time can tell what is
in stored for the declining film industry.

Amir Khan To Engage With Faryal At Bolton Wanderers Reebok Stadium

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 04:45 AM PDT

Exchanging wedding rings while being surrounded by a thousand people (including legendary footballers Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Ricky Hatton, David Haye etc) at a fancy engagement party worth £150,000 might be included in the agenda of certain second generation Pakistanis as it just so happened that the enthusiastic boxer Amir Khan is set to be engaged with an American-Pakistani. Faryal, the lucky 20 year old and her family could not be much happier. "My parents are already treating Amir like a son," says the enthusiastic bride-to-be and that statement was strongly supported when her proud parents, father Shaukat and mother Zia gave the happy couple a BMW 750Li as a gift following the announcement of their engagement.

The boxer's fans have time again compared his 5ft 3in fiancée's looks to that of Kate Middleton. Amir considers himself lucky to have such a 'humble' and 'terrific person'. The bride-to-be will be leaving for Great Britain this Friday for the sake of their engagement party and has plans to stay there for a week in order to give Amir a chance to show her around the city of Bolton. Regarding showing her around the city, the young boxer jokingly stated that, "I'm going to introduce her to a pasty barn, fish and chips – maybe even an ice cream if she's lucky!"

The couple revealed how difficult the relationship was during the initial stages due to the language factor as Amir speaks with a broad Bolton accent. Faryal openly expressed her difficulty in comprehending her fiancée's words as he often used to say 'daft' and 'innit' – which she had no idea of. The problem finally met the solution when she visited his home at Bolton to meet his family. Regarding the future, Amir said that, "I know New York is an amazing city but our future lies in Bolton – she can't wait to live there!"

How “The Others” ; Pakistan’s Youngest Band Is Supporting Music Industry

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 04:27 AM PDT

The young blood of Pakistan is full of passion, talent, the will to act and the courage to dream. Speaking particularly on the country's music industry, one rock band that happens to take over it by storm is none other than 'The Others'. The band consists of seventeen year old lead vocalist and lead guitarist Zoya Uzair and her eleven year old brother Ali as the drummer. Together they have impressively earned the reputation of being the youngest band of Pakistan. Impressively, the duo has been very active since February 2010 and has earned quite a name for themselves over the span of mere two years.

The siblings seem to take music as a way of life. "Music is a way of expressing oneself. Where I am at life at the moment, it just means everything to me. I will never stop," said the passionate Zoya. "The passion is constant. I would listen to old songs sung by legendary music maestros and then their modern renditions and would try coming up with my own version, wanting to sound as good if not better." Other than the rock genre, the duo is also focuses on whatever they are comfortable with as Zoya states that music is beyond race, ethnicity and dialogue.

The younger brother is quite an asset for the band in his own right as well. Drummer Ali, as revealed by Zoya, considers him a valuable commodity when it comes to drums and percussions as it makes her perform better. Despite the success and ambitions, the duo is still handling the burden of studies as well but fortunately is able to balance it with their passion for music. As far as the current status of the band is concerned, that might face a pit stop once Zoya goes abroad for studies and Ali finishes high school. That is a bomber that the fans must face sooner or later but the band guarantees that they will indeed reunite following the graduation.
