5 Minutes with Rahim Saranjam Khan [Interview]

We sat down with Rahim Saranjam Khan who recently performed a session for Ufone Uth Records 2.0 and talked about his work, experience with Ufone Uth Records and possible future endeavors.

Q) How did you begin? How do you define your sound?

A) I began playing the guitar 12 years ago when I was in school. My sound is a mixture of rock, blues, Indian classical and jazz. I am still trying to perfect it.

Q) What influences your music?

A) Well my influences are divided in to 3 categories; Guitar, Singing and Composing. In guitar playing I am inspired by almost all the great guitarists specially Mark Knopfler, Joe Satriaini and Steve Vai. In singing I like Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Bon Scott, Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Javed Bashir, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. In composing I like Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tinariwen, Richard Wagner, Mekaal Hasan.

Q) How do you find Ufone Uth Records? How was your work experience with them?

A) It was cool. The house was all painted with cool pictures and bright colors. It felt as if I was living in an ad. The cameras revolved around you for most of the time so you automatically start pretending to be cool. They had a very good studio with everything a music gear lover would dream of. Gumby is a very experienced drummer. They wanted an audience friendly song and I wanted to do more experimental stuff.

Q) Have you been contacted by any big name other than Ufone Uth Record?

A) No.

Q) Any new upcoming projects?

A) I have completed my album and in the process of properly producing it.
