Afridi Becomes the UNODC Ambassador Creating Awareness against Drug Use and Crimes Posted: 06 Feb 2012 10:54 AM PST Shahid Afridi is a hero for millions of fans in Pakistan and an ideal that many sports-lover look up to especially the young aspiring cricketers. He has recently signed an agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to become the organisation's ambassador for drug control at a ceremony held at Shalimar Cricket Ground in Islamabad. He will be responsible to guide the UNODC on what areas to focus on and which parts needs more attention with the specific requirements of Pakistan. He will monitor the impact of UNODC's work in the country and will spread awareness about dangers of drug usage and crimes that result out of it. To attract more people toward this campaign, he will undertake many activities that also include youth cricket tournament, he will also celebrate the International Day Against Drug Users and warn against HIV/AIDS issues. As Afridi has had his share of being mistreated, he has sworn never to become captain of the national cricket team again. He does not want to be a scapegoat anymore. He is interested in doing something for the youth of the country, which needs attention, care and opportunities and Afridi is there for them through creating public awareness with the help of UNODC. Ali Zafar Asks Not to Judge Pakistan through Veena Malik Posted: 06 Feb 2012 10:49 AM PST When Veena Malik is being panned down as the cultural ambassador for Pakistan, Ali Zafar came out clear with the logic of it all saying that an entire country could not be judged based on actions of just one or two individuals. Now it is for Veena's critics who have to understand this point. Ali Zafar said this while being interviewed by the Indian media that:
An actress like Veena Malik who has sprouted controversy wherever she went, she have never been expected to do anything representative of Pakistan's cultural values. It is a wrong expectation to associate with her. What she needs is a break and long one at that from all the controversies that even media jumps in on sparking. Ali Zafar further went on expressing his thoughts on the matter saying:
To defend his work ethics and protect pride of his country Ali said that:
Even though Ali thinks that he has gotten away from creating all the controversies but he has in fact done a scene which now might not come out as shot originally where he was also not being the 'cultural trumpet' of Pakistan. But he believes that:
There are however different criteria as to what extent an actor and an actress can go to while working in another entertainment industry even on a personal level. Ali shares his wisdom and experience saying:
Now that Veena Malik has signed a British film, one expects her to learn from the past. Let us hope that talent alone survives rather than this urge of making and hearing more controversies. Read more at: Ali Zafar Asks Not to Judge Pakistan through Veena Malik |
Veena Malik Gets an Offer for a British Film as a Lead Actress Posted: 06 Feb 2012 10:42 AM PST Veena Malik is on the rise and apparently in high demand, because when an actress can take her talent to the UK, she sure has arrived. Recently Veena Malik proudly shared the news of her signing a film with a British director very happily and why would not she, because she also happens to be in the lead role. She told Times of India that:
She seems determined but just not enough for the Indian directors she has worked with. They have complained against her not following the schedule and delaying production, which can cost millions at times. As is the nature of Veena to appear committed, she said she will follow through this time around because as she said in her words:
Not only millions worth of production money lies on her, but being a leading lady in any film means that even after the production, more than ever before, millions lie on her after the film has been released to make it worth the efforts and costs.
