The Top Pakistani Videos Making Use Of Special Effects

Posted: 03 Feb 2012 10:45 AM PST

By Hasan Faridi

With the increase of technology, multimedia and graphic design, Pakistan has now begun to spawn creative talent like never before. We now begin to see, that many have also put these skills into the music industry.

In this article, I give a low-down of the Top Pakistani videos that make use of special effects (good or bad) and prove that Pakistan does have some creative talent hidden in the midst.

8. Mizraab – Meri Tarhan

I know its surprising, but look at the release date of this video. 2002! Credit has to be given, because when we look back at that time, there was hardly any videos with special effects like this one. OK, maybe not special effects. But a green screen (also seen in Mizraab's 'Dil Dil Pakistan' and 'Izhar'). This one unlike the other Mizraab tracks, makes use of a variety of camera angles and features some smashing debris behind some eerie backgrounds.

Oh and the close-ups of Faraz Anwar's young face brings back some memories. Old school!

Youtube hits: 100+ The original has gone! Mizraabianz ATTACK!

7. Fuzon – Akhiyan

Who can ever forget the hit 'Akhiyan' by Pakistani pop band Fuzon? The video of 'Akhiyan' is your typical band-plays-in-front-of-camera video, but the effects and background added to the background throughout the video bring out the dazzle. Of course, a love song needs some good dazzle. With Shafqat Amanat Ali's renowned voice, it's just a bonus.

Youtube hits: 50,000+

6. Entity Paradigm (EP) – Shor Macha

EP fans everywhere have adored this patriotic song called 'Shor Macha'. Patriotic songs as we know, get far in Pakistan, and they strengthen people's spirits like no other. Oh, and when cricket comes into it, it sometimes gets more patriotic.

Nevertheless, when news came out about this song being released it spread like wildfire. So much that all the EP fans went into a gigantic arena to raise their voices. Not really. But it would seem like that in the video of 'Shor Macha', where EP are playing in a enormous arena. How they did it? Ask the guy who did the special effects.

The awkward moment when Hasan finds out the whole set was real.

Youtube hits: 12,000+

5. Ali Azmat – Teri Perchaian

It was either Ali Azmat's 'Tera Mera' or 'Teri Parchaian' to take fifth place, but we've had some stop motion effects already and 'Tera Mera's fancy colours don't do any justice.

Cartoon animation can be a tedious process, and it deserves credit. 'Teri Parchaian' takes us on a journey of a cartoon man (who strangely resembles Ali Azmat himself) in a eerie world. The man tries to commit suicide by jumping off a building (don't try at home) and ends up swimming with the fishes. Want to see what happens? Watch the video. The ending leaves me wondering still.

It may look like a simple cartoon, but a closer look will show that many scenes are in 3D.

Youtube hits: 28,000+

4. Avid – Deja Vu

The majority of Pakistani music fans probably don't know about the band Avid. But to be honest, Avid deserve the recognition. Not only for some good old hard rock, but a cool video packed with special effects. It's no surprise however, because Avid hasn't really been in the limelight. They just seem to have disappeared.

The video of 'Deja Vu’ revolves around a creepy animated stickman travelling around various surreal landscapes. The video is not too entertaining, but you can tell the amount of work put into the video was a lot of work. It also took a lot of work to get the guitarist's headbanging in a synchronised fashion near the end of the video too.

In French, 'Deja Vu’ means 'something that has already been seen.' I bet they didn't see this ranking coming!

Youtube hits: 1,000+ What?

3. Faraz Haider – Andher

High hopes were set when the teaser for 'Andher' was released. And what a teaser it was, featuring an eerie atmosphere and eyeballs turning inside out to pure darkness.

When the official video was released, there were mixed opinions on it. Without a doubt, the special effects in this video are amazing. One minute, Faraz stamps the ground as debris flies to the camera and the next minute he's screaming at a fire slowly engulfing the set. Hot.

Just like the video.

Youtube hits: 21,000+

2. Irtaash – Humnasheen

Irtaash have been in the spotlight for quite some time, with an album release and also various videos released in their musical journey like 'Kaali Raatein'.

When someone watches 'Humnasheen' and just thinks about how much work must've been put to make it, with the stop-motion effects and God knows what, we can just assume that it took a long time to make it and that the effort paid off.

The effort paid off to make a stunning masterpiece.

Youtube hits: 28,000+

1. Wajahat Hussain – Zameer

With more than 28,000 Youtube hits, this particular video proves that it has captured some attention.

The video revolves around military combat, acts of aggression (some viewer discretion advised) and most profoundly, a struggle. A struggle against the good and bad. The special effects nevertheless, are remarkable and seem rather lifelike – with gunshots here and there, cloned marching troops and heck, even the whole world blowing up!

The song is powerful, and the video adds to it. Various scenes make us reflect upon ourselves, and some scenes hit our emotions. Hence, 'Zameer' gives us something that many videos fail to deliver in the present day, making it number one.

Youtube hits: 28,000+

And there you have it, the Top Pakistani videos that make use of special effects. There will be many people who will agree with the ranking. But of course, there will be the people who don't agree with the list. Its fine, as the ranking was not to divide, but to show how Pakistan has some talent that goes unheard of. Hopefully, I brought it into the limelight.

Are there any more videos that deserve attention for their use of special effects? Write a comment!

Honorable Mentions: Abbas Ali Khan‘s Malal, Jal‘s Sajni, Sajid and Zeeshan‘s Freestyle Drive, Axed‘s Chaltey Hue and Mustufa Pervez‘s Kitna Yaad Aye.

Bandhan, Fawad Khan’s Next Tv Series with Sarmad Khoosat

Posted: 03 Feb 2012 09:59 AM PST

Humsafar,’ currently the most-watched Pakistani drama has been a super-hit with Fawad Khan as the lead male actor and Mahira Khan as the female lead, directed by an eminent director and scriptwriter, Sarmad Khoosat.

Well, the Pakistani female heart-throb, Fawad Khan, after his super-hit ‘Humsafar’ is working on a new TV serial, ‘Bandhan’ with Sarmad as the director again. The cast includes Neelam Munir, Mehreen Raheel, film actress Resham and not to forget, Fawad Khan.

Neelam Munir is another female Pakistani actress who is receiving recognition and appreciation by the audience and is getting popular.

With Fawad and Khoosat working again on another drama, it could be a hit like ‘Humsafar’. Sarmad, is a prominent director as well as a scriptwriter who has not only directed dramas like ‘Humsafar’ but has also worked on profound and non-conforming plays such as ‘Do Naina Mat Khaiyoo’ and ‘Tehreem’ which have been featured in Hum Telefilm festivals. Fawad on the other hand, besides being a singer, started acting quite young with a comedy play and received fame quite soon.  He has gained even more fans, specially females, after the current most popular and super-hit play Humsafar – he has the charms and the good looks.

Bandhan, being directed by Khoosat and having Fawad as the lead male actor could be another super-hit because of their working history together. Could ‘Bandhan’ be another ‘Humsafar’?

I’ll leave that for you guys to decide. Drop in your opinions in comments.

Hip Hop 2011 and the Big Dogs

Posted: 03 Feb 2012 08:14 AM PST

By Ch Nabeel Ahmed

There's no doubt that only thing that dominated 2011 in Pakistani music scene other than Coke Studio was Pakistani Hip Hop. The slow pace of other genres and consistent discontent from formula hip tracks created a vacuum which was filled by the much needed Hip Hop/Rap videos that came one after the other. The major boost came in May when 'Conflict Management' by Rap Engineers, 'Off the Handle' by Adil Omar featuring Xzibit and 'Too Much Pride' by Lazarus dropped in the same week back to back. Not only the videos went viral on timelines but also took over the TV channels, where 'Conflict Management' still stands in Top 5 music videos of AAG and ARY Musik.

The storm didn't stop there when Osama Com Laude dropped his 'The Balance' with Talal Qureshi and Fortitude bringing the Pushto Rap 'Time Pass' to the front that officially made its mark with Project BX's Dewaar in 2010. Other significant names that kept the game running with their releases were Dj Danny, Bali Shah, Atomic Chain, Fahad Qureshi and Billy X.

Hip Hop has been underrated in this region and never been taken seriously before but today it holds fan pages with huge strengths and dedicated fans and people actually looking forward to Rap concerts. Adil Omar making international waves with his album 'The Mushroom Cloud Effect' coming up and Rap Engineers holding the game tight within sub continent with the highest desi following and consistent Live shows that they have been doing for past 6 years. With A.O catering the international and elite Pakistani audience, R.E offering a blend of Punjabi (Xpolymer Dar), English rap (Maddy Khan) and classical (Yaruq) music for the desis around the globe.

2011 was wrapped up by 'Paki Rambo' by Adil Omar and 'Batain' by Rap Engineers, unquestionably two of the most catchiest Hip Hop tracks from 2011. Hip Hop/Rap in Pakistan has made its repute and its mark with these names remaining honest to their music and originality. With 'The Mushroom Cloud Effect' on its way, 'Green Machines' by Rap Engineers in the making, OCL working on his videos and other Hip Hop producers like TQ, Dj Danny and Webster, engineering some of the hottest beats in their labs, 2012 is supposed to be a colossal year for this Genre.

On an even better note, we all anticipate the first cypher from Pakistan coming soon, which features Osama Com Laude, Xpolymer Dar (Rap Engineers), Adil Omar and Bali Shah (Rapsteradoz).

The question that remains is, 'will this genre also going to decay with time in Pakistani music scene and lose its originality like many others or will these promising Hip hop acts provide a firm platform for the coming rappers to shine on?' And 'Will all those rappers who have been battling on Rap forums since 2003, ever make it to the front with actual quality music and challenge the big dogs?'
