| Malalai Yusufzai Nominated for international Children Peace Award Posted: 28 Nov 2011 07:43 AM PST ![]() Malalai Yousafzai: "The voice of women and students in Swat", Malalai Yusufzai also Nominated for international Children Peace Award. Barely 11 years old, Malalai earned fame by speaking out against the Taliban in 2009, particularly in documentaries about her life by Adam B. Ellick, a prominent video journalist of the New York Times. The documentaries are titled "Class dismissed in Swat Valley" and "A School Girl's Odyssey." She kept a diary during the Taliban era in Swat about her daily life for BBC Urdu. She wrote under the pen name of "Gul Makai" in an attempt to avoid bringing upon herself the wrath of the extremists and militants. On March 8th 2010, she was the most lauded speaker of seminar held in Lahore by HRCP on the eve of International Women's day. |
