Abdul Rauf Khalid (Urdu: عبدالرؤف خالد) (died 24 November 2011) was a Pakistani actor, filmmaker and television writer/director. An ex-serviceman and bureaucrat, Khalid was known for his Kashmir based patriotic plays. He worked in films and television plays. He attended Islamia College, Peshawar.

Career:
In 1989, he wrote and partially directed PTV's thriller, Madaar, a seven-episode serial exposing drug trafficking, telecast from PTV Quetta centre. In 1991, he wrote Guest House a 52-episode comedy series that turned out to be a popular comedy series for PTV. Its characters became household names. Film star Afzal Khan, who played Rambo in the serial, came to be permanently known with the name even in his career in the filmdom.

In 1994, Khalid directed Angar Wadi, a 15-episode serial for which he was an actor and a producer apart from writing it.

Television serials:
In 1998, Khalid made Laag, a 27-episodes serial (written, directed, produced and acted). In 2003, Khalid released his debut film Laaj as (writer, director, producer and actor), although it reportedly did poorly at the box office. The film LAAJ won 12 Bolan Awards, 14 Graduate Awards, 4 National Film Awards and Luxstyle Award. In 2008, Khalid made his third television serial, Mishaal (as writer, director & producer), which was telecast from Pakistan Television on Tuesday evenings.

Painting:
His paintings have been exhibited in the World Fineart Gallery New York and the Omma Art Gallery in Crete Greece.

Death:
Rauf Khalid died on 24 November 2011 in a traffic accident on motorway near Sheikhupura.

Rauf Khalid shot to prominence as a filmmaker with the 1995 super-hit serial "Angaarwadi" on Pakistan Television which portrayed the struggle for rights and human dignity in the disputed region of Kashmir . Co-produced and co-directed by Khalid, the success of "Angaarwadi" allowed the new filmmaker to direct and produce another epic drama for television set in Kashmir , starring Zeba Bakhtiar. Atiqa Odho reminisces about Rauf Khalid

Actor Atiqa Odho was saddened to hear the report that acclaimed television writer-director and actor Abdul Rauf Khalid passed away on November 24 in a road accident while travelling from Islamabad to Sheikhupura.

Like many others, television and film actor Odho who worked in Khalid's 1995 drama serial "Angar Wadi", and thought well of Khalid. "My condolences go out to Rauf Khalid's family. It's really sad to see such a young life lost. This unfortunate incident should remind us all that nothing and no one is permanent,"she told The Express Tribune.

She further added, "What's important is to live with honour and dignity so that the memories we leave behind are worth remembering."

According to reports, the accident occurred when one of the tyres on Khalid's car burst, fatally overturning his car. Khalid – also a painter, lyricist, speaker and educationist – has left behind a wife, two sons and a daughter.

Khalid, the President and Chancellor of the National Institute of Cultural Studies, Lok Virsa Islamabad, was best known for his television screenplays which include "Guest House", "Angar Wadi" as well as Lollywood film =Laaj. The film won 12 Bolan Awards, 14 Graduate Awards, four National Film Awards and a Lux Style Award, reported dawn.com.

Apart from the above mentioned awards, he had also received the prestigious Pride of Performance award.
