Sajid and Zeeshan – Sanity (Official Music Video)

Posted: 22 Jul 2012 07:17 AM PDT

Artist: Sajid and Zeeshan

Song: Sanity

Album: The Harvest

“Sanity” is a typography project initiated / directed by Shahab Qamar (Naseer and Shahab) for Sajid and Zeeshan and it is their 3rd official video from their 2nd album, The Harvest.

Lyrics:

Since you have come to me,
I won’t decide,
You're grabbing everything I hold,
leaving hope on the side.

Its funny how we took a turn,
I was left you were right
The only way your head would turn,
If I stepped out of sight

But I cant lose to win a game
Am I that wise?
And I can’t suffer you again,
I'm always wrong then we fight

I know you're different, When you're mine, ‘Cos you're indifferent, Every time

The pebbles that I never threw, Across the oceans of my mind,
They spun me in a perfect haze,
Leaving doubt on the side,

But I won’t let you let me blame again,
I have reasons that you might,
Since we face each other’s dignity with shame,
Let me say this one more time

I know you're different When you're mine ‘Cos you're indifferent Every time

Should I crawl away?
Would I fall again?
Should I crawl again?
Would I fall again?
Should I crawl again?
would I fall?

Arooj Aftab & Banda Magda – Yerakina (KM Single Review)

Posted: 22 Jul 2012 07:06 AM PDT

By Ahmad Uzair

It might sound too clichéd but it's a real fact that there is no dearth of talent in Pakistan and no matter how worse the conditions might be, the intellectual minds always make their way up to the top level. One of these examples is the very talented Arooj Aftab who is not only pursuing her musical dream but has also got a greater cause to project. She sings with a deep reminisce in her tone which makes it more interesting to listen to her songs.

The track which is in the spotlight right now is her recent collaboration with Banda Magda, which is a captivating Greek folk song. This song is interpreted by Magda Giannikou who also shares the lead vocals with Arooj aftab on this track.

This single is released under the project label of "Rebuild Pakistan". This initiative was started by Arooj in collaboration with a welfare organization after she herself witnessed the massive destruction caused by the floods in Pakistan couple of years back. The project consists of various art forms, mainly dance and music, to help project the softer image of Pakistan. This is really the need of the hour. Because in the end, it's the culture and artists who build up the gaps between the nations and are a perfect tool to project the brighter side of our country and remove misunderstandings globally.

Lately we have been passing through a very critical phase and we as a nation always find a place in international media but sadly for all the wrong reasons. But these types of public initiatives really help to take the cause of Pakistan forward and that too from the younger lot is really heartening to see.

This is a traditional Greek song which is known to be one of the most famous tunes from Greek folk. It talks about the lost one and how one's longings are attached with emotions. Video opens up with the motto “re-build Pakistan” and shows all the band members jamming together in open spaces and at times in studio as well, and sharing light moments with each other. The visuals also feature Arooj aftab playing her part and occasionally coming at the vocals too. One might find the untidy look of Arooj a bit bizarre but may be she is trying to look more casual and careless. Obviously the language of the song is not much understandable as it is in Greek but it's the feel of the song which is very riveting and sweet. Specially the various live musical instruments played in the track which are really a treat to listen as they add up an extra dimension to it. We just can't talk more about the song by ignoring some superb percussion by Marcelo Woloski and the most amazing Vibraphone played by Mika Mimura. Vibraphone surely sounds very unusual and yet gives a very twinkling feel to the song which mixes up amazingly.

Although a low-profile collaboration, it seems to be a promising one specially keeping in view the whole cause behind the project. This really will go a long way to have positive impact on our image as a nation and globally too. And will let people hailing from different backgrounds come together and present their art, which is surely the best instrument to evolve peace and harmony in this troublesome world.

Aamir Liaquat, Sahir Lodhi among Top Most Hated Pakistani Celebrities

Posted: 21 Jul 2012 02:50 PM PDT

Amir Liaquat - Sahir Lodhi most hated Pakistani CelebritiesAccording to a recent poll conducted on our Facebook page, Aamir Liaquat and Sahir Lodhi were voted as “Top most hated Pakistani celebrities”

Aamir Liaquat has been a TV host for various religious shows including Aalim Online for Geo TV and Aalim aur Aalam on ARY Digital. When he moved to ARY digital from GEO TV Networks and the Television Rating Point (TRP) of the new channel sky-rocketed , a viral video with the name “Real Face of Aamir Liaquat” was allegedly leaked by his former channel. The video showed Aamir Liaquat using profanity in his religious show. He was also seen having fun with serious and prominent religious scholars who were invited by him in the show.

Recently, he jumped back to Geo Networks again , with the impressive designation of Vice President for the network. He was brought back by GEO TV to lead the TRPs of their channel during the month of Ramadan. Now as he is back again, and being projected heavily on the print and electronic media of the network, people who had seen his real face are quite annoyed with him. They are equally annoyed on him for the reason as he had given quite rude remarks against Geo Network earlier, when the video got leaked.

The other guy who is hated the most by Pakistani TV audience is Sahir Lodhi who switched to Geo TV networks from the channel TV ONE. Sahir Lodhi grew up in Karachi but later moved to US for his studies. He spent 14 long years there and completed his masters in “petrol engineering”. Sahir is passionate about Radio and has been hosting “The Sahir Lodhi Show” on Mast Fm 103 for quite sometime(frankly, he ain’t that bad on radio).

The reason why he is hated the most is his weird, childish and immature attitude that he shows in his TV programs. He brilliantly copies the style of Shah Rukh Khan yet claim that he is the greater actor than the SRK. He has the record of doing so many absurd shows, including some pathetic ones on Fake Peers and Jinnaats. The truth is, if there is one guy on Pakistani TV channels who can seriously make you annoyed than he is none other than Mr. Sahir Lodhi.

The other TV celebrities who were voted as most hated ones; were Veena Malik, Maya Khan and Waqar Zaka etc. The voters also added and mentioned the names of Shaista Wahidi, Mubashir Lucman and Mehr Bukhari.

Quratulain Balouch – One and Only (KM Single Review)

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 11:27 AM PDT

By Ahmad Uzair

Adele is definitely one of the big things of our generation when it comes to international music scenario. Her soulful and melodious tracks are always a treat to listen and every one can relate to them. Recently it has become quite a trend to cover her songs ranging from random non-professional youtube singers to as huge as Linkin Park.

In Pakistan the trend is not so different too and we see many artists covering Adele's songs. This time around it is Qurutulain Balouch (a.k.a QB) who has taken the task of covering "One and only". And one would say that she actually manages to pull it off quite neatly.

Produced by Jarar, who happens to be a new comer into this industry and has also performed on Ufone Uth Records, this song really gives the feel of the original one, perhaps the only drawback of this song.

Her husky and unusual coarse voice was the plus point in doing this cover and people will surely relate it to the original one after listening to QB's cover. It really takes you down the memory lane. But more or less the real feel and the agony which can be associated with the original track were missing in the cover and it seems that QB didn't really try to put in an extra effort. There wasn't any improvisation shown by QB on this track and it all went with the flow quite smoothly just like the original one.

Mostly it is seen that whenever an artist tries to attempt at a cover, he or she tries re-inventing the original track to give it a new dimension and make it sound different and refreshing. But that certainly is a risky thing too and you never know how the listeners will react to it. Keeping this in mind, I think QB has taken a safe route to cover up the song. By not doing some extra variations to the song, she has made it just another of the covers. But as far as her own talent is concerned, that is pretty much un-questionable as she thoroughly displays her wide vocal range and versatility through out the track.

Also it seems that it’s time for QB to move on and come up with her original songs. She should really get out of this cover song stigma as it is affecting her career and if she continues to do so it won't last too long. She debuted with a couple of Reshma covers, then [she] appeared in a jazz advertisement with Bilal Khan which was once again a cover song. Even the much hyped and the super hit Humsafar OST was also a cover as it was originally sung by Abida Parveen. So it’s time for her to look forward with something originals because when you are covering other people's song, comparisons are always being drawn and no matter how good you do it, you just cant take it as your own thing.

All in all, "One and only" was a pretty decent effort by QB but not as good as someone would have expected from her seeing her track record and the beautiful versatile voice she is gifted with.
